EN 12077-2 specifies general requirements for limiting and indicating devices used in cranes. These devices restrict operation or provide operational information for the operator or other persons. Specific requirements for types of cranes are given in the appropriate standards.

EN 12077-2 does not cover the erection, dismantling, or changing the configuration of a crane. This standard does not apply to cranes manufactured before the date of its publication.

The standard is relevant for different groups representing the market players concerning machinery safety:

— machine manufacturers (small, medium and large enterprises),

— health and safety bodies (regulators, accident prevention organizations, market surveillance, etc.).

Others can be affected:

— machine users and employers (small, medium and large enterprises),

— service providers, e.g. for maintenance (small, medium and large enterprises).
